The purpose of this Test Administration Manual (TAM) is to guide Teachers Administering the Alternate (TEAs) and District/School Test Coordinators (DC/SC) to prepare for and administer the Connecticut Alternate Science (CTAS) Assessment to eligible students with significant cognitive disabilities who were determined by a Planning and Placement Team (PPT) to meet the criteria for an alternate assessment.

The resource titled, Connecticut Alternate Science Assessment (CTAS) Assessing Students Who Are Blind, Deaf, or Deaf-Blind: Additional Guidance for Test Administration is intended to be used by the trained Teacher Administering the Alternate (TEA) in conjunction with the required test administration materials available on the portal.  This resource includes tasks, definitions and strategies, with examples that may be used by the TEA as appropriate for individual students to enhance access to the CTAS.

This document provides instructions describing how to access the Data Entry Interface (DEI). The DEI is used for the submission of the Connecticut Alternate Assessment Eligibility Form and the Connecticut Alternate Science Assessment (CTAS) Student Score Worksheets as well as transcription of Large Print, Braille, and Out-of-State Tester Student Responses for the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Assessment.

The Test Coordinator Manual (TCM) provides the District Administrator with information pertinent to the following summative statewide student assessments supported by the American Institutes for Research (AIR): Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Summative Assessments, the Connecticut Alternate Assessment (CTAA) in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics, and the Connecticut Alternate Science (CTAS) Assessment. This manual does not include directions for the Connecticut SAT School Day, LAS Links, the Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment, or the Kindergarten Entrance Inventory.

The Connecticut Alternate Science Assessment (CTAS) is a non-secure test that is administered to eligible students with significant cognitive disabilities in Grades 5, 8, and 11. The CTAS was designed to be administered by the Trained Teacher Administering the Alternate (TEA) in a one-to-one test setting with the student. The responsibilities and suggested steps for the Trained TEA are defined in this document.
